Finally taking action on reports and complaints being received for some time on the illicit sale of prescription drugs to substance abusers, the district administration raided a medical store and sealed it here on Tuesday. The action taken by the local administration against illegalities in the sale of medicines caused some anxiety for those involved in this business.

According to sources, an informer had conveyed the Nainital district magistrate Deepak Rawat that narcotic drugs were being sold illegally at Prince medical store situated along Tanakpur Road. Taking serious cognisance of the report, the district magistrate soon directed the city magistrate Harvir Singh to take action against the shop owner in this case without delay. As a result, late on Tuesday evening, the city magistrate along with his team, conducted a raid on the medical store and also sealed the same later. The city magistrate also informed that since the drug inspector of Nainital was away on leave, a drug inspector had to be called from Almora. In the presence of the drug inspector, the sealed medical store will be opened and investigation will be conducted after which further action will be taken in the case. The authorities raiding and sealing a medical store caused much anxiety among medical shop owners in Haldwani at a time when the abuse of pharmaceuticals for intoxication continues to spread in different areas of the State.
