The Medical Education Department has requested the Medical Council of India (MCI) to increase the Post Graduate (PG) seats in Government Medical College Haldwani. A team of the department was in New Delhi on Friday to put the case for increasing the number of PG seats in the medical college.
The Medical Education director, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, said that a request to increase 10 more seats in the Haldwani medical college has been made to the MCI. He said that State needs more specialists in health services. Dr Sayana said that three seats each in Gynecology, Anesthetics and Ophthalmology at Haldwani Medical College can be increased. At present there are 68 PG seats in this medical college.
The MCI had increased the number of PG seats in this medical college from 39 to 68 in the year 2016-17. It is worth mentioning here that the MCI recently had refused the state medical education’s plan for allowing PG classes at Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Medical College, Srinagar.
