With the increasing number of accidents on Char Dham circuit despite the prior inspections by departments concerned, Director General of Police Anil K Raturi said that district officers have been instructed to monitor accident prone areas at all times and take preventive measures.Raturi said, “This is a matter of concern. It is unfortunate that death toll is increasing because of road accidents. We have discussed about this issue in detail with district officers. We will be taking preventive steps for controlling road accidents.”
Garhwal Inspector General Ajay Rautela said, “The condition of roads is a problem. They are not in good shape and at some places debris are spread across the road. We have informed Public Work Department (PWD) and National Highway department regarding this matter. Still, we are taking precautionary steps from our side. If some debris come rolling down on the road, nearest police station is to be informed.”
He further added, “Citizens have also been requested to abide by the traffic rules, especially drive in your lane. We are taking strict actions against those who are found over speeding on the route and breaking traffic rules.”
