The State Government has appointed Mussoorie- Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and the State Infrastructure Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand limited (SIIDCUl) for constructing sports villages at Dehradun and Haldwani for the National Games which are scheduled in the State in the year 2018.

Minister for Forests and Sports Dinesh Agarwal informed this while talking to The Pioneer. He said that the State Government is fully committed for a successful and transparent conduction of 38 National Games. The Minister said that the massive infrastructure developed for these games would help in creating a positive environment for sports in the State. He said that the process of selection of site for Sports village in the State Capital is currently on but the land of trenching ground on Sahastradhara road and a place near the sports college Raipur are the two preferable options. The trenching ground however needs to be shifted to an alternate place. It is worth mentioning here that on demand of the residents of people residing near the trenching ground the State Government has proposed to shift it to Singhniwala located on Shimla Bypass.

The proposed Rajiv Gandhi international stadium and sports complex at Raipur Sports College would act as the main venue of the games. The work on the mega project is expected to be completed by December 2015. This stadium is being constructed by the Shaporeji Paloonji construction company with an estimated cost of Rs 37 crore. For water sports the department of sports is planning to use Tehri lake.

The department is also constructing another stadium of international standards at Haldwani which would also host large number of sporting events during the national games.Apart from Dehradun and Haldwani some events can also be hosted in places like Rishikesh and Haridwar.
