Earlier, MDDA secretary Prakash Chandra Dumka said, “Unlike some private builders in such instances, the MDDA has already started work on the Aalayam project with about 40 per cent of the work having being completed so far. With emphasis on ensuring quality standards and meticulous site development, we will also be setting an example for private builders by providing possession of the homes within the two-year period. The quota in this project is provided as per the government order with 19 per cent reservation for scheduled caste, four per cent for scheduled tribe, 14 per cent for other backward classes, five per cent for freedom-fighters/members of parliament and members of legislative assembly, six per cent for state employees and members of the security forces aged above 50 years with two per cent reservation for State accredited journalists. The location of this project is beautiful with scenic views of the Doon Valley and such is the focus on ensuring quality standards that we also have third party supervision and assessment by engineers in addition to our own organisational mechanism,” he added.
MDDA officials stated that Aalayam is a Sanskrit word which means “a temple or sacred house”, while adding that the project offers much more for comparatively lesser cost than similar housing projects by private builders.
