MDDA fails to take action against illegal constructions

The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority has failed to take effective action against unauthorised constructions and wedding points violating various regulations.

The MDDA officials are aware of increase in unauthorised constructions during the recently concluded parliamentary polls but concrete action against these is yet to be taken. However, on Wednesday, the authority sealed two wedding points, one mobile phone tower and a construction being undertaken on a school building in violation of the law.

According to information received from the MDDA, a team from the authority sealed the wedding point operated by VK Sharma on the Raipur Road, Negi wedding point at Raipur, the third floor being constructed illegally at Max International School in Banjarawala and a Reliance Communications mobile phone tower at Shakti Vihar, Sahastradhara Road.

Though the authority officials state that action against illegal constructions and unauthorised wedding points is being taken, skeptics point out that those with influence are being ignored by the authority inspite of being guilty of blatant violations. Some officials also admit that continued interference in the work of the MDDA by politicians and collusion of some officials with those violating the regulations has so far prevented the authority from acting tough against illegal constructions and wedding points flouting various rules.
