A team of Medical Council of India (MCI) made a surprise inspection of the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Medical College Srinagar Garhwal on Tuesday.

The college had recently applied for approval from the MCI for 47 Post Graduate (PG) seats in various disciplines. The college has at present only four PG seats.

The arrival of three member team created a stir among the staff members and the administration. The college administration was apparently in a relaxing mode as the two day inspection by a team of Army Medical Corps (AMC) has ended on Monday. The team inspected the medical college and associated hospital. The Principal of the college Dr CMS Rawat accompanied the team. The team sought details of the faculty members and inspected the facilities in the hospital and medical college. The director Medical education, Dr Ashutosh Sayana told The Pioneer that the department had sent a proposal to the MCI for 47 PG seats in month of March. It is worth mentioning here that the government Srinagar medical college is plagued by the problem of the acute shortage of the faculty members. It is learnt that as many as 80 percent posts of residents are lying vacant. The college has seen as many as nine Principal in last nine years.
