The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given a reprieve of 15 more days to the Doon Medical College (DMC) authorities for its re inspection. The team of MCI is now expected to visit DMC in third week of March.
The Principal of DMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta told The Pioneer that he along with Dr Ashutosh Syana and Dr K C Pant had appeared before MCI in a hearing held on February 12 and submitted a comprehensive report on the preparation of the college. He said that the time provided by the MCI is a golden opportunity to get the pending works completed. Dr Gupta sounded confident over the preparations for the proposed visit of MCI.
The approval of MCI is needed for starting a medical college. A team of the apex body visited the college in first week of January and inspected its academic and administrative blocks and expressed its displeasure on staff shortage and pending construction works. The team also visited the associated hospital of the DMC.
Based on the report submitted by the team, the college was given one month time to complete the pending works by the MCI.
Now, the fifteen day breather given by the MCI has given more time to authorities to get their act together before the all important re inspection.
