The special fortnight- long sanitation drive now continuing across the city at the behest of the municipal corporation Dehradun (MCD), the civic body officers are monitoring things regularly. They have made it clear that no negligence of duty during the drive would be tolerated.
Strict orders have been given to the sanitation staffers to clean specific garbage points located across the city during the night shift. Workers have also been asked to send photographs of the principal garbage points taken before and after the drive.
Supervisors and health inspectors, tasked with the execution of the drive, would check how things are going on in their assigned areas in the morning shift. The team members have been directed not to switch off their phones during the continuation of the fortnight- long drive. They would also slap fines on the traders found selling items wrapped in polythene bags as part of the special drive.
They have been asked to submit a report of the removal of illegally installed hoardings, banners and posters along with the fine collected to the municipal commissioner daily. By way of incentive, MCD announced that 15 staffers would be rewarded by the team accordingly.
Municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said that the drive is now continuing in full swing across the city. “The basic thing we are focusing on is to clean the garbage points. Over spilling of garbage is one of the basic problems that leave the city littered. The garbage to be collected would be sent to the Seshambada treatment plant. Besides, the sanitation staffers must work while clad in proper uniform. This would be checked by the appointed sanitary inspectors and nodal officers,” he said.
He further said, “The wards are divided into four zones for easy and proper functioning. We have also ordered 200 dustbins and six vehicles. The tender has been given and it will take 15-20 days for completion. We believe that this would speed up the cleanliness process in the city.”
