To sterilise quarantine centres, Covid care centres and containment zones among other places in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is using about 5,000 litres of disinfectant every day.
According to the chief municipal health officer Dr Kailash Joshi, the MCD uses nearly around 3000 litres to 5000 litres of one percentage sodium hypochlorite solution daily to sterilise several places.
He said that on the weekends the corporation is also sanitising the public places including marketplaces, banks, ATM booths besides those areas where the crowd generally gather during the weekdays. According to him, nearly 15,000 litres to 20,000 litres of disinfectant is used on weekends.
"Unlike other days, about 7000 litres to 10,000 litres of disinfectant is used to sterilise these places on each day of the weekend," said Joshi. He also informed that the corporation is also fogging the places to minimise the potential dengue threat in Dehradun. Joshi stated that the MCD is also releasing Gambusia fish provided by Dehradun district administration in several areas of the city to inhibit the growth of dengue causing mosquitoes in water bodies during monsoon.
