MCD to waste no time: Will withdraw work in 60 wards

Considering stringent action against the negligent attitude of the Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) company towards the degrading sanitation level of the city, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun is planning to withdraw works in all the 60 municipal wards from the company.

Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Ashok Kumar said that soon the responsibility of the all the 60 wards of the city would be withdrawn from the company due to its apathetic attitude towards the sanitation arrangements of the State capital.

Kumar said that earlier when the company was holding limited responsibility of just 30 wards then too it had not functioned efficiently.

later when on the company's consistent request the number of wards was increased to 60 then also no positive result was achieved.

Meanwhile, Siddharth Jain, CEO of DVWM, in reply to the MCD official’s earlier decision of withdrawing 20 wards from the company, said,”Why just 20 wards, MCD is free to take back all the 60 wards from us.

In fact, the company is also ready to return charge of all the wards to the MCD but not without any prior notice.

MCD officials have to give a one month notice before withdrawing any wards from our charge,” he said.

Further criticising the work of the MCD officials, Jain said that MCD has not yet initiated the sanitation work or door to door collection of garbage work in any of the 20 wards which were supposedly taken back from the charge of the company though the DVWM employees continue to undertake sanitation work in these wards.

Jain also said that it was only on the request of the MCD officials that the company started its door to door collection of garbage two years back which was supposed to be started only after the completion of construction of compost plant.

Notably, earlier after a meeting with Minister for Urban Development, Pritam Singh Panwar, it was decided that the sanitation and maintenance responsibility of 20 wards would be withdrawn from the DVWM and MCD would be holding the sanitation responsibility of these wards.
