MCD to reward officials for enforcement of polythene ban

Published on:

In order to ensure effective enforcement of the polythene ban in the State capital, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) would now be rewarding its officials for their better performance.

Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Ashok Kumar said that he had instructed the supervisors of all the 60 wards to penalise the offenders found using polythene bags and impose challan on them.

Supervisors who would penalise maximum numbers of offenders and levy maximum challans would be rewarded 10 per cent sum of the challan.

He also stated that supervisors would be awarded based on their performance between the period of April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.

The supervisor bringing maximum sum of challan in this duration would be rewarded by the MCD officials and in turn it would also help in enforcing the

polythene ban effectively in the town.

Meanwhile, blaming the district administration, Kumar said that inspite of getting complete support from the MCD officials it has failed to enforce the ban and make the city polythene free.

He opined, “I don’t think the district administration has got sufficient number of employees to enforce the polythene ban properly. MCD has always supported them and even provided required number of staff whenever needed for any drive.” However, Dehradun District Magistrate, BVRC Purushottam maintained that it is not the job of the district administration to enforce such regulations.
