In an attempt to organisationally strengthen the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and improve its functioning, officials are planning to outsource posts especially in its health department to maintain and restore the sanitation arrangement of the town.
Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Ashok Kumar acknowledged that it is a challenging job for the MCD health department to maintain the sanitation of the State capital with insufficient staff.
The shortage of supervisors and sanitation inspectors is affecting the supervision of sanitation works in the State capital. Generally, the works of sanitation inspector, chief sanitation inspector, zonal officer and the supervisors are inter-connected.
All these officers are responsible for supervision and monitoring of sanitation works in the town.
According to Kumar, at present there are only two Sanitation Inspector (SI) while the required number is 15. MCD is also lacking Chief Sanitation Inspector (CSI) and Zonal Officers.
Minimum six CSIs and four ZOs should be appointed at the MCD, said Kumar. MCD would recruit at least two ZOs, two CSIs and two SIs through outsourcing. Preference would be given to retired army men for these posts. Kumar said that their salary would depend on their last received pay.
The MCD Health department is also planning to hire private committees to speed up the sanitation works of the city, informed Kumar.
Senior City Health Officer, RK Singh said that outsourcing would surely help in strengthening the health department by augmenting the staff strength.
He added that this would help in improving the functioning of MCD as major sanitation work of the town is handled mainly by the health department of the corporation.
Meanwhile, leader of opposition in MCD, Neenu Sehgal stated that this is for the first time when MCD is planning to outsource senior posts in the Health department though sanitation workers are hired from time to time to improve the sanitation level of the city.
Appreciating this move of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun Sehgal said that the councillors would welcome this decision especially as the health department is suffering from greater staff shortage.
