MCD to demolish vacant condemned buildings from Aug

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will start work on demolishing the vacant condemned buildings in the city from next month. Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar

Pandey informed that notices were issued to owners and occupants of the condemned buildings in the past but many of these buildings listed as condemned were later found to be okay in the revised data of the officials.

Pandey further stated that necessary steps regarding the vacant condemned buildings will be taken after July 28.As per the data provided by the officials the data on condemned buildings was revised after it was ascertained that many of the buildings marked as condemned earlier were structurally sound. Some, on the other hand, are vacant for a very long time and are listed as condemned buildings.

Pandey said, “We revised our earlier data of the number of condemned buildings which was 47 earlier this year.

Notices were served to the owners and occupants of these buildings. However, later the tenants came to us with proof of the buildings being fine. Also, there were two buildings in which the court has ordered a stay.

We will further look at the parameters on which we can work regarding these two buildings. Also, as the Himalayan Conclave is near we are assigned with various duties so the work is on hold. However, after July 28 we will be working to demolish the vacant condemned buildings in the city.”
