MCD to check current status of condemned buildings in Dehradun

In order to check the present status of all the marked condemned buildings in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is to recheck all such buildings after the direction by mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’.

As per the information provided by the officials, nearly 32 such buildings are marked as condemned in the city. The mayor stated that the matter is of utmost concern hence necessary steps will be taken regarding this.

Explaining it further Gama said, “The issue is of great importance as we receive cases where either the property is disputed or the house owner intentionally lists his/her buildings in ruinous condition which in reality are perfectly fine.

They basically do it to get their tenants to vacate the building or when both the parties are not on talking terms.” As per the information provided by the municipal officials, there are about 32 such buildings listed as condemned structures. Recently, after the case of the LIC building on Chakrata Road was highlighted where shopkeepers and residents were given three months to vacate the property, the mayor took the decision to check the status of all condemned buildings.

Adding further in this Gama said, “Keeping the recent as well as the received cases in consideration we have decided that a rechecking of all these buildings will be done by our team. I also want to clarify that personal disagreement of property owners and tenants is not our responsibility.

Only buildings that are in a very bad condition and liable to collapse will be considered as condemned. No other building should come under this category without any proof,” the mayor added.
