In order to boost the sanitation system of the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is likely to buy 10 more Jatayu machines in the coming months. MCD has already bought one machine that has been working now on a trial basis in the city.  It has been 15 days since the machine has been working in the city, said the civic body officials and added that the trial of Jatayu which would continue for nearly a month would help them to decide whether to buy more such machines.

Speaking of the matter, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “There is one Jatayu which MCD bought and it is working in the city. We are likely to buy more once the trial is finished.”

Chief municipal health officer Kailash Joshi said, “One Jatayu machine has been working on the trial basis.  The areas assigned for it is from Mussoorie Divergent Road  to the Vidhansabha. Currently, we are keeping a watch on the work of the Jatayu. After the trial period ends  we are likely to  buy more machines for which the tender would be floated.”

Romik Rai, the chief executive officer of Green Asset, said, “ Jatayu machine is an India- made technology which functions more efficiently than the other tools used in the field of cleaning. MCD is very likely to buy 10 more of them to ensure better sanitation in the city.  Our workers are now operating the machine. So far, the results and response from the officials are very good.”

The Jatayu machine costs Rs 15 lakh, including the mini-truck on which it is mounted. It is basically a portable vacuum cleaning machine which can provide instant cleaning. The immense suction power of the machine is particularly useful during the monsoon season. The machine is now being used in Roorkee, Chamba, Tehri, Rishikesh, Chinalisur, and Dehradun. It was used last year for the first time after which MCD finally bought one such machine for sanitation purpose.
