MCD to build toilets for BPl beneficiaries

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun is about to start work on construction of toilets free of cost for selected beneficiaries from the Below Poverty line (BPl) category.

Work on the toilet construction under Swachchh Bharat Mission will begin in the current month. In the initial phase, toilets will be constructed in about 90 homes in the Madrasi Colony.

Talking about it the Swachchh Bharat Mission project director at MCD, Pushpa Rauthan said, “We have a team that inspected the homes at the Madrasi Colony. After the inspection, a draft was sent to seek budget.

It took a month but finally, the tender was allotted. About `5313 has been allocated for each unit in the identified area. The construction is slated to start in the near future.”

Talking about the problem faced in the area she said, “There are no such problems that we faced but awareness about sanitation is low among the residents in the colony.

The locality is also very congested so it was also challenging to find the space for construction of toilets."

If a good response is received to this, the MCD may consider constructing toilets for other BPl beneficiaries in the various municipal wards of the city in the future, added Rauthan.
