MCD to adopt stricter action to improve civic sanitation

Taking cognisance of the worsening sanitation arrangements in the state capital, Mukhya Nagar Adhikari at Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), Ashok Kumar chaired a meeting with the supervisors of each ward and instructed them to expedite sanitation works in their wards.

Supervisors of each ward of the town were issued necessary instruction regarding the improvement of sanitation in the city. In the meeting, supervisors were asked to redress all the discrepancies existing at the corporation level. They were also asked to augment the number of machines and vehicles to speed up the sanitation work in all the wards. Instruction for purchasing total 20 dustbins and 50-60 cycle-rickshaws were also given to the MCD officials.

While discussing the sanitation issues, Kumar said that staff shortage in the MCD health department is a major reason for deteriorating sanitation works. He added that staff recruitments through outsourcing medium would hopefully help in balancing the work at MCD. Meanwhile, Kumar also said that door to door collection of garbage in the 20 wards withdrawn from Doon Valley Waste Management company should be done on regular basis by the MCD employees.

Around 50 per cent share of the user charges collected from these 20 wards would be handed over to the supervisors of these wards to improve the sanitation arrangement in their wards, averred Kumar. Criticising the company officials for all the discrepancies related to the sanitation arrangement in the town, Kumar said that the sanitation works of the city have been hampered due to the irresponsible attitude of the company.

The MNA also informed that a notice has been served to the company for not ensuring the timely servicing of vehicles used in the sanitation works. He has also asked for a detailed report about the servicing details from the company officials.
