MCD sets up a cell to tackle water logging

With the advent of the monsoon season around the corner and considering other factors, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun is all set to tackle the water logging problem of the city. A disaster and flood control room was launched by the MCD on the weekend, which will work 24x7 to register and resolve complains of water logging in the city.

The MCD has also started a helpline number- 0135-2652571 and the toll-free number 18001804153 which can be used to register complaints regarding water logging. The control room will be managed by one of the officers of the MCD and a weekly report of its functioning will be submitted to the district magistrate/MCD administrator and the municipal commissioner of Dehradun. Three sanitation supervisors will be working in this cell in a day in shifts round the clock to look after the urgent complaints.

The municipal sanitation staff has also been divided into teams and assigned different wards to coordinate with the sanitation supervisor in the control room and keep the control room updated about the condition of water logging in the different places in the city. MCD has also formed two teams of ten workers which will inspect different areas in the city and will also work to resolve the registered complaints communicated by the control room.

The MCD has also kept two vehicles which are assigned to work in two shifts accordingly, along with different equipment like raincoats, spades and other aids for the workers. Also, water pumps will be installed and arranged to clear the water from the roads and other water logged locations in the city.

The officials concerned have also been directed to be alert all the time so that local people face no problem. If any officer in charge will be found careless about his/her duties, actions will be taken against him/ her.

Changes would be made in the present plan according to the monsoon and condition of the waterlogging in the city.

The control room head and MCD assistant engineer Rachna Payal said, “The service has already been started. A telephone has already been set up in the control room in order to register the complaints from the people. However, the weather in the city has been fine for two days which is why not many complaints have been registered so far. We will work to keep this service active,” she added.
