With the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) having taken over the work of door-to-door collection of garbage from the Doon Valley Waste Management company, the corporation is making preparations for fresh tender process for this service while awaiting written instructions from the Government.
The contract with the DVWM has ended and the municipal officials are now planning to check the work record of the company in other towns to check whether problems faced in the functioning of the company here were also experienced elsewhere.
The DVWM had stopped working earlier this year demanding an increase in the tipping fee paid to it.
However, with no such provision in the MoU signed between the MCD and the company, a temporary arrangement was made till the end of the contract.
According to the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) Harak Singh Rawat, the corporation has taken back the work of door to door collection of garbage from the company which was undertaking this work only in 10 wards of the city of late.
"The fresh tenders for this task will be invited after we receive the required letter to this effect from the State administration. However, presently we have started preparing for the process with work being undertaken on preparation of the detailed project report for this task. As far as anomalies in the working of the DVWM company are concerned, we will check the work record of the company in other towns to ascertain whether the problems faced in Dehradun were also experienced elsewhere in towns where the company worked. Depending on our findings, the company could be prevented from taking part in the fresh bidding for the task of door to door collection of garbage," he said.
The door-to-door collection of garbage is part of the solid waste management project funded under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and has the potential to
substantially improve the level of civic sanitation in Dehradun if executed efficiently.
