The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun's (MCD) plan to install street lights across the town has been given up by the corporation. The execution of several of its other proposed beautification and development plans for the year 2014 has not yet acquired the pace required to meet the deadline.
The Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA), Ashok Kumar, who had earlier claimed that around 180 street light poles would be installed in the town in a bid to improve the lighting system in the State capital, now says, "We have given up the plan of installing the poles and now would plan it sometime in the next financial year."
Similarly, the proposed online taxation plan of MCD which was supposed to be started in first week of January this year has not being introduced yet. When asked about this, Kumar said that the work is in progress and most probably will be completed in about six months. Stating the reason for the delay, he said that due to some ongoing agreement issues with the bank, the work has been delayed.
The other major development plan's of MCD include development of park, erecting statues of various eminent personalities at major places of the city, development of vendors zones, introduction of water conservation project and installation of 70 bus shelters in the town and to construct around 50 steel police booths in the city.
Regarding the beautification, erection of statues at different places in the town and development of parks, Kumar said that all these projects have not yet been started. These works might be delayed for sometime and would be initiated from April onwards.
He said that these development projects were also delayed due to the scheduled imposition of the model code of conduct for the Panchayat and general elections. He maintained that the amount of the grants provided to the MCD is almost over; so all the development projects would be initiated in the next financial year.
Meanwhile, Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli said that MNA can better respond about his proposed development plans as he had made all these announcements.
