The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) charged a penalty of Rs 12,000 from the vegetable and fruit vendors of the Araghar Mandi after the municipal commissioner received a complaint about some vendors choking the drains of the nearby area. On Wednesday, the senior municipal health officer Dr RK Singh arrived at the site with his team to inspect the area. During the inspection, Singh found out that some vegetable vendors are dumping vegetable peels and rotten vegetables in the drain. Taking action against it, Singh imposed the fine on culprits collecting about Rs 12,000 and issued a warning to them.
The municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the corporation is regularly cleaning the drains of Dehradun to avoid choked drains and waterlogging during the rainy season, therefore, he appealed the vendors and public not to dump any kind of garbage in these drains as that will worsen the situation during the rains.
