A meeting was held by the officials from Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and a city-based voluntary organisation for setting up a plastic recycling management programme in the city.  Officials stated that a proposal will be made regarding this.

According to the information provided by official sources, if the proposal gets accepted, the programme will work on a trial basis in 10 municipal wards. The plastic from the garbage will be collected from these wards and will be treated in the machines which will entail sorting, shredding and melting of the plastic garbage.

Adding further information to this, Naveen Kumar Sadana from Waste Warriors said, “We received a good response from the officials. Implementing plastic recycling management programme will make our city cleaner. This will help in the reduction of the garbage littering on the roads and also plastic waste will get recycled.”

Talking more about the role of the MCD in the project he added, “The MCD has a vital role to play in making this project successful as the corporation will collect the garbage from various wards, which will be then be given to us for processing and management.

Also, the cost of the machines, land to set machines, electricity cost of the machines along with the transportation will be given by the MCD. We have proposed five machines that cost about Rs 25 lakh. This plan is already working in six cities of the country,” he added.
