MCD in no mood to disburse blankets among needful

Published on:

As the chilling cold continues to affect the public, especially the underprivileged and homeless, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) appears to be in no mood to distribute woollen blankets to the needy.

Although the civic body of the State capital claims to  extending assistance to the needy section of the society through various social welfare schemes, the reality appears to be much different at the ground level.

The MCD now find itself incapable of even distributing woollen blankets to the needful. In spite of the chilling cold in the town no blankets have been distributed yet by the corporation in Dehradun.

The MCD has faced strong criticism from the municipal councillors and the locals but it appears to no avail. With a hope of getting some relief from the chilly weather several locals were even witnessed thronging the MCD office to put forth their demands in front of Mayor Vinod Chamoli and Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Ashok Kumar but their demands were left unheard.

Councillors of both BJP and Congress parties at MCD also raised the issue in front of the senior officials at MCD but they complain that they did not receive any positive response from the officials.

"After getting it duly signed by the MNA Ashok Kumar, we had forwarded a letter to the Mayor Vinod Chamoli last week seeking provision of blankets to the councilors for distribution among the needy but nothing has been done yet in this regard," said leader of Opposition at MCD Ninu Sehgal.

Sehgal stated that the councilors have urged the Mayor to provide at least 40 blankets to each councillor for distribution to the needy people. He said although Mayor expressed his concern over the issue but nothing has been done from his side on this issue.

It must be mentioned here that the MCD authorities had earlier announced to provide 10 blankets to each councilor this year .

However, MNA had also earlier stated that owing to the existing cash crunch, MCD would be distributing comparatively fewer number of blankets in the wards. But till now not a single blanket has been provided to the councillors for distribution which is causing discontent among the needy and the councillors.
