Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has slapped a  fat bill of over Rs 3 crore on Survey of India by way of collecting the service tax. According to the MCD officers, the bill has been given for the collection of the service tax under the notification of the Union Urban Development Ministry 2014.

They, further, said that   around 80 central offices come under the services granted by the MCD. The service taxes collected from these places are divided into three categories. The categories are fixed by the services provided by MCD, as 80 per cent tax where the services are fully provided, 50 per cent tax where services are partially provided and 33.13 per cent tax  where MCD gives no service. “This is how we collect such service taxes from the offices,” said a senior MCD officer.

Elaborating on the bill sent to Survey of India, he said that a bill of one year to the tune of over Rs 92 lakh has been pending for four years. “The bill has been sent by MCD to Survey of India for prompt payment of the dues. No reply has been received by MCD so far. We hope the bill would be cleared by them very soon,” he added.
