The much-hyped tax collection drive of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) from the slum settlements of the city failed to start on Saturday as the website of the corporation played truant on the very first day. An official stated that the webpage that was supposed to add the data of the people was under development due to which the collection failed to start from the decided day.
An official in charge from the MCD said, “The webpage which was supposed to add the data of the people failed to work properly on Saturday so no tax was collected. The designated bank has been given instructions for fixing the problem after that we will start the tax collections from slums.”
It is important to mention that MCD last collected tax from the slum dwellers, 11 months ago. After that, no tax collection was made from any of the houses. Adding more in this in charge said, “Some of the houses have remained out of our reach in the last drive we conducted last year.
However the houses which are not in our records will have to submit pending taxes as well.”
Official also stated that the process of tax collection this time will be online. The slum dwellers will be provided with the website link and they have to pay their taxes online.
If any area will face problems regarding the submission of the tax then tax collection camps will be set up in the areas by the MCD.
