The grace period for payment of House Tax in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has been extended by two months till May 31. The tax assessment of new constructions in existing urban areas will begin from April 20.
In addition to this, Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli has also communicated with the Urban Development Secretary stating that a budgetary provision of about Rs1.5 crore will have to be made to facilitate the 100 per cent house tax rebate provided to serving and retired servicemen.
The period for payment of house tax in the MCD had ended on March 31 after which the home owners would have had to pay the house tax with 12.5 surcharge. However, considering public convenience, the Mayor had ordered a four-day extension for payment of House Tax.
After chairing a meeting with officials on Tuesday, the Mayor decided to extend the grace period for house tax payment to May 31.
Chamoli said, “Additionally, the tax assessment of new constructions in existing urban areas will begin from April 20. The house tax assessment of these new constructions was not done so far. Regarding the issue of 100 per cent rebate on House Tax to serving and retired servicemen, I had a talk with the Urban Development Secretary and I am also writing to him about there being no budgetary provision for this. I estimated that the rebate to serving and retired servicemen in MCD would amount to about Rs1.5 crore while across the State this would amount to about Rs4 crore. I have also talked to the Urban Development minister and plan to meet him on Wednesday to discuss this issue,” said the Mayor.
