The sanitation condition of the city is deteriorating by each passing days while the officials of the Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) company and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) are still busy blaming each other instead of adopting any serious measures to find any permanent solution to it.
Criticising the Principal Secretary, MH Khan’s statement after his inspection to check the sanitation arrangement of the city, Neenu Sehgal, leader of opposition at MCD, said that MCD is not solely responsible for all the irregularities related to sanitation. Counting MCD’s earlier achievements he said that it has done good work in past without any external support.
Denying all the allegations of DVWM regarding non payments and dues, he said that MCD has provided sufficient equipments to the company, maintained Sehgal.
He said that MCD has fulfilled all the demands of the company as mentioned in the MoU. But the company has failed to meet the expectations of MCD and is responsible for the existing sanitation irregularities, he added.
He added that just a couple of days back, to regularise the sanitation arrangements of the city, MCD has announced to withdraw the work of at least 20 wards from the company.
The decision will surely take time to be completely implemented and pointing out the MCD’s shortcomings without the complete implementation of the instructions was not a good move by the principal secretary, he added.
While blaming the internal politics at the MCD, Sehgal said that MCD officials are not giving much attention to the development works of the town.
"They are busy pulling each others' legs, which is hampering the development works," he said, while adding that the best way to counter these allegations is to prove themselves through their work and resolve all the issues collectively.Meanwhile, a municipal officer on condition of anonymity said that MCD is responsible for consistent delay in implementing the solid waste management (SWM) project.
He added that no budget has been sanctioned yet for the SWM project, which is major reason for the delay in the project.
The employees are also not paid on time and their demands are not taken into consideration by the MCD officials. Contrary to this, a Congress Councillor, Beena Bisht blaming MCD for all the existing irregularities, said that MCD is not able to handle its responsibility properly.
She added that no proper monitoring is being done by the MCD officials. The officers are busy conducting meetings but don’t draw any conclusions from meetings, she added. Chief Spokesperson of Congress at MCD, Jagdish Dhiman, said that MCD is mainly responsible for the worsening condition of sanitation level of the city.
He added that MCD has not yet adopted any strict measure to resolve the issue permanently. He added that instead of showing some work at ground level the MCD officials are busy
boasting. Officials are not even bothered much to talk to each other on the development and sanitation issues, he added.
