In view of the monsoon season, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is likely to add rope in more sanitation workers from other places. Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ on Tuesday stated that the issue is being discussed among the officials of the MCD and if needed, the additional workers will be appointed.

Addressing the media on Monday mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “The cleanliness of the city is one of our major concerns especially in the monsoon season and necessary steps have been taken by us to clean the city. The work of cleaning the big drains of the city is still underway.” When asked about the lesser number of sanitation staff in MCD, he said, “The issue of limited sanitation staff is in our notice and we have talked to the mayor of Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh).

If needed, more staff will be appointed on a temporary basis from there.” It is important to mention that the present workers of the MCD have held a protest against the formation of the sanitation committees in every ward. Even after spending many years in service many are not appointed as permanent workers.
