Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli has stressed on the importance of community awareness for keeping public places clean. He said this while visiting the Gandhi Park on Monday to take stock of the CII-Waste Warriors project launched earlier in July this year with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun to keep this park clean.
Appreciating the work done in the park the Mayor said that this was the only large green space available to the public in the heart of Dehradun city. The MCD is considering the option of Public Private Partnership model for the upgradation and upkeep of the park. Emphasising on the need for security at the park, he said that MCD is making suitable arrangements. He also sought support from the local police for this.
CII Uttarakhand State council chairman Manu Kochhar appreciated the support received from the Mayor for the project. He concurred with the Mayor that it was as much a responsibility of the users of the park to keep it clean as that of the MCD. Since the project launch Waste Warriors has been working towards keeping the park clean by assigning a full time worker in the park, organising monthly children’s days and weekly awareness drives to sensitise the public on waste management and keeping public places clean. Composting enclosures have been created to utilise the garden waste and vendors around the park have also been sensitised to keep the area in and around the park clean.
Himalaya Drugs Dehradun unit president Dr S Farooq exhorted the public to come forward and support such public causes. Waste Warriors CEO Jodie Underhill and CII Uttarakhand director Vibha Malhotra were also among those present on the occasion.
