Mayor: All Govt depts, citizens responsible for safety in city

A day after a worker died in an accident while cleaning a soak pit in National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ stated that every department and the individual is responsible for taking their duty seriously so that such an incident  is not repeated.

Talking to the media on Monday he said, “The incident is very heartbreaking. It is important that everyone not only officials from any department but the citizens of the city also take their duty seriously so that such an incident is not repeated.

Same is the case with cleanliness; it is the duty of every single person to keep the city clean.”

It has been observed that various roads in the city have damaged patches due to the laying of sewage lines or other works. Such patches on roads become dangerous potholes in the monsoon season.

When asked about it from the mayor said, “The issue is in our notice and all the patches on the road, especially formed after the laying of sewage lines will be covered before the rainy season.”

It is also important to mention that in the second board meeting a proposal was passed for granting Rs two lakh to each councillor for the road patchwork. However, due to the lack of Junior Engineers (JE’s) no fund has been passed so far.
