'Mayawati to decide fate of expelled party MlAs'

Published on:

The expulsion of former MlA and State vice-president Mohammad Shahjad from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has caused ripples in the State unit of party and now the party workers are hoping that BSP Supremo Mayawati would withdraw the suspension of party MlAs Haridas and Surendra Rakesh.  Shahjad was expelled for anti-party activities on Saturday by the president of State unit Nathu Singh.

When asked by The Pioneer on the speculation of the withdrawal of suspension orders of Haridass and Surendra Rakesh, the State president of BSP, Nathu Singh said on phone that BSP supremo Mayawati would take the final decision on the issue. He said that action against Shahjad was taken because he was working against the interests of party for long. Rubbishing the allegation made by Shahjad shortly after his expulsion, that the state President was planning to field him (Shahjad) from Doiwala assembly by-election to blackmail the Congress party, Nathu Singh said that these charges are baseless as the BSP president had decided that the party would not contest these elections.

Welcoming the decision of the party to expel Shahjad the MlA from Jharbera Assembly constituency of Haridwar, Haridas said that the decision is in the larger interests of the party. Haridas who along with Social Welfare Minister Surendra Rakesh was suspended from the party just before the recent lok Sabha elections said that the party would increase its presence in the state now. Haridas said that he is fully confident that the BSP President Mayawati would take him along with Rakesh back in party’s fold. He said that he is continuously working to increase the base of the party and has full faith in the leadership of Mayawati.

After the debacle in the lok Sabha elections Mayawati had suspended all party units in the State and appointed Nathu Singh as new president of state unit.
