The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president, Kishore Upadhyay has appealed to the farmers from different parts of the Hill State to attend the Congress rally slated in Delhi on April 19 to vent their anger against the 'anti-farmer' land Acquisition Bill in a large number. Taking stock of the preparations made by the party regarding the upcoming rally here on Friday, the UPCC chief claimed that more than 15,000 farmers from the mountain state are expected to attend. The kind of response we have so far received from different parts of the State is good, he added.
Upadhyay slammed the BJP led NDA Government vis-à-vis the plight of the farmers in the aftermath of the unseasonal rain this year. With the farmers suffering, the BJP-led NDA Government is engaged in supplicating to the corporate giants. "Congress is the party which always empathises with the farmers," he claimed. The State Congress convened a meeting of all party office bearers from different parts of the Kuamon division here on Friday to discuss preparations for the rally. All the senior party leaders from the state would attend the Delhi rally, State Congress activists said.
