A considerable number of public parks will be developed in Dehradun of which 40 parks will be developed in the Raipur Vidhan Sabha constituency. Chief Minister Harish Rawat said this while addressing the gathering in an open public meet at Nehru Colony in Raipur constituency on Thursday. The CM took cognisance of problems and issues raised by citizens and directed officials to act as required to resolve these issues.

Rawat said that a scheme had been started for shifting of high tension overhead power lines for which the local MlA and State Government will provide 30 per cent each of the expense with the power department taking on the remaining 40 per cent of cost. He appreciated the fact that Raipur MlA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ had approved a sum of Rs 1.50 crore from his development fund for this task. The CM pointed out that citizens face varied problems during execution of developmental works but after completion, they also benefit from such works. He said that officials concerned should try to minimise inconvenience to the public during execution of various developmental works related to roads, power and water supply. Rawat said, “We are going to develop a considerable number of parks but the local residents will also have to come forward and fulfill their responsibility of maintenance of the parks. Efforts are also being made to shift the high tension power lines passing above homes. However, the people should also keep in mind for the future to desist from constructing their homes below high tension overhead power lines.”

Rawat further said that an increase of 30 per cent has been made in the supply of potable water in Dehradun this year but considering the rate of population rise the supply will have to be increased further. He said, “Along with the government, its is also the responsibility of citizens in Dehradun to keep an eye on government lands, sites reserved for parks and riverside areas and inform the police without delay in case they find encroachment on such lands.”

Apart from the Raipur MlA, block Pramukh Beena Bahuguna, district magistrate Ravinath Raman, senior superintendent of police Sadanand Date and other officials were also present on the occasion along with locals.
