Around five armed criminals who forcibly entered the home of one Surendra Singh Thapliyal for burglary, killed Thapliyal’s son Ankit when he resisted the criminals early Wednesday morning (4 am).
Four other members of the family — Surendra Singh Negi, Vindeshwari, Shanti and Anjali (tenant) — were also attacked by these criminals. The criminals escaped after committing the crime.
At a time when the Dehradun police seem to be groping in the dark regarding two recent cases of armed burglary in Mothrowala area of Dehradun, the latest incident has exposed the police’s claim of providing security to the
residents as hollow. In his complainant, agriculture department officer Surendra Singh Thapliyal stated that around five unidentified persons had barged into his home at 4 am and at gun point, criminals began demanding gold ornaments and cash from the family members. One of the criminals fired shots at his 23-year-old son Ankit when he resisted them. Ankit died on the spot. After hearing the shots, the tenant also reached the incident site and was also beaten by the criminals thereafter.
The criminals decamped with gold ornaments and cash around Rs90,000. One of the criminals was also injured in the scuffle with Ankit. Police rushed to the site after being informed by the locals. The injured persons were admitted in the local hospital who are said to be out of danger. Injured Surendra Singh Thapliyal, who broke down, wailed, “What is the use now mentioning in the FIR about stolen items when my son is
no moreIJ” Taking cognisace of the complaint, a case under sections 395, 396 and 394 of IPC was registered in the Raipur police station.Additional Director General of Police-ADGP (law and order) Ram Singh Meena, DIG Garhwal Range Amit Sinha, SSP Ajay Rautela and other district police officers rushed to the spot and gave necessary instructions to the police. locals protested against the police allegedly failing to provide security to them.
ADGP Meena said to solve the case, five teams, including one consisting of Special Operation Group personnel, have been formed and one of them has been deployed in the districts of Uttar Pradesh to nab the culprits. Another team is working here to solve the case.
Raipur Police station in- charge Mukesh Tyagi said taking cognisance of the complaint, a case under appropriate sections of IPC has been registered in the Raipur police station and teams have been formed and they began working to solve this case. Observers said the rise in incidents of crimes, including robbery, loot, burglary and snatching, in the State capital in recent days has shown that fear of the law is not much of a deterrent for the criminals operating across the city. The dearth of verification drives and inadequacy of police patrolling are some of the reasons that can account for the spiraling crime-graph in the city. In two recent incidents in Mothrowala area of Nehru Colony police station, criminals barged into houses and at gun points, decamped with cash and ornaments. In one case, criminals who covered their face in masks entered the house of one Rajiv Chauhan, in Nehru Colony and at gunpoint, decamped with a car and gold ornaments worth lakhs. In another incident, Babita, resident of Mothrowala, registered a complaint, saying two persons had forced into her home and decamped with gold chain and rings worth Rsone lakh.
