A trucker is reported to have been killed by a leopard after the man’s partially eaten body was discovered in the jungles of Raiwala area on Monday morning. The angry locals demanded that the big cat should be killed after being declared a man-eater failing which they have threatened to block the highway in protest.
According to official sources, Chamoli resident truck driver Pushkar Farswan had made a night halt near the Satyanarayan temple near Raiwala on Sunday night. He is believed to have gone to the nearby woods to attend to nature’s call at about 3 am. When he failed to turn up till in the morning, his acquaintances searched for him nearby without success. They then informed the police and forest department.
The department personnel searched for him in the jungle and found his partially eaten body in the woods not too far from the road. The department staff have stated that a leopard is believed to be behind the truckers death. As news of the trucker being killed spread in the area, the locals gathered and demanded that the big cat be killed as early as possible.
Stating that presence of a ‘man-eater’ in the residential area had affected their routine life, the locals warned that they would block the highway in protest if the big cat is not killed soon.
