A vigilance team has arrested Roorkee (Haridwar) Mandi Parishad secretary Rishipal on Monday on charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a Haridwar- based complainant. Rishipal had sought bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant who is the owner of a Mandi Samiti’s partnership firm in return of his assured initiative to implement SDM’s order pertaining to the firm, informed Ashok Kumar, additional director general of police and director (vigilance).
In his written complaint lodged with the vigilance Dehradun sector, the complainant said that instead of executing the order issued by Haridwar (Roorkee) SDM, Samiti secretary Rishi Pal had been unnecessarily harassing him through various ways. The complainant further said that he had made rounds of the secretary office repeatedly and requested him to implement SDM’s order. However, Rishipal had sought Rs 50, 000 as bribe to implement SDM’s order, he said in the complaint.
He further noted that following several rounds of talks, the bribe amount was fixed at Rs 20, 000 and the place where the bribe was to be given was fixed too.
Acting on the complaint, a team led by vigilance inspector was formed. Two independent witnesses were also included in it. The vigilance team members drafted a plan to trap them.
Rishipal was caught red- handed while taking Rs 20, 000 as bribe from the complainant at his office at Mandi Utpadan Samiti, Roorkree, on Monday in the presence of two independent witnesses.
A case under appropriate sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered against the accused in Dehradun sector vigilance. Ashok Kumar, director (vigilance) and SP (vigilance) Nivedita Kukreti announced reward for the team members for cracking the case.
