District and Session Judge Kumkum Rani sentenced Vinod to life imprisonment and Rs10,000 fine for committing a murder in the Yamkeshwar Tehsil in 2007. The murder was related to dowry demand.

According to the District Government Councillor (Criminal) KP Dangwal, the accused Vinod, a resident of Dhasi village in Yamkeshwar tehsil was married to lakshmi, resident of Poogra village in Patti Bichala Dhangu. After marriage, Vinod started mistreating his wife. A child was born to the couple after five years of their marriage, but Vinod continued to torture his wife. lakshmi told her parents about the torture following which her father visited the in-laws where a drunken Vinod manhandled him and taunted him about lack of dowry.

Vinod came home with his friend Pradeep on October 13, 2007 and asked his wife to cook mutton. When Vinod was taking out the meat from a bag some photographs of women fell out of the bag which resulted in a heated argument between the couple and from the next day lakshmi was missing from the home. Vinod started search for his wife and on October 21, he lodged a missing complaint.

On knowing about lakshmi’s disappearance, her father reached the house but Vinod didn’t reply satisfactorily to his queries. lakshmi’s father lodged a report with the District Magistrate on October 25 after which the woman’s body was found on the banks of the Ganga near Banderchatti. The session court heard the arguments of the prosecution and examined the evidence before finding Vinod guilty of murder.
