Man-eater tiger dies due to ailments

Published on:
A tiger declared man-eater six years ago and kept at the G B Pant high altitude zoo in Nainital since then died due to some ailments, after earning huge popularity among his admirers. Popularly known as 'Sheru' among his admirers, the tiger was about 15 years of age. If the death of 'Sheru' came as a sad news for its followers, the demise of this big cat is not less concerning for the Nainital zoo officials.
Because after death of this tiger, there is only one female tiger aged about 7 years in the Nainital zoo. After death of two Siberian Tigers in 2001 and in 2011, there was only one pair of big cat. Now after death of 'Sheru' there is only one tigress in the Nainital zoo. Interestingly, among a variety of zoo inmates, 'Sheru' had earned a pride of place in this high altitude zoo in Nainital during the past six years. Sheru was brought to the Nainital zoon when he was declared man-eater after he had taken human life in Corbett Tiger Reserve’s Bijrani zone in February 2009.
As 'Sheru' was new to a human made zoo environment initially, so only after a certain period later on the visitors were allowed to view the aforesaid tiger in the zoo premises. With the course of time 'Sheru' had become centre of attraction for the visitors. This tiger had stopped taking food since February 24, 2015 or so, said Manoj Shah, Range Officer of the G B Pant high altitude zoo in Nainital, while talking to The Pioneer.
