The Congress’ victorious candidate in the Bhagwanpur Assembly by-polls Mamta Rakesh has said that she is a party worker and would accept any responsibility accorded to her.
She said this during her first visit to the Congress Bhawan in Dehradun after her electoral victory. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay greeted her on the occasion.
Bhagwanpur Assembly by-polls was necessitated by the demise of Cabinet Minister Surendra Rakesh after which the Congress fielded his widow Mamta Rakesh from the constituency in the by-polls.
With her victory, the Congress has secured an absolute majority in the Vidhan Sabha about three years after forming the State Government.
Meanwhile, some members of minority communities joined the Congress in the presence of Upadhyay, Subodh Rakesh, PCC coordinator Rajendra Shah and other party workers.
