Pundit Madan Mohan Malaviya was the only person in India who was honoured with the title of ‘Mahamana’, said chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
He was speaking at a function organised on Malaviya’s birth anniversary here on Tuesday.
He said that with attempts through journalism, advocacy and social change Malaviya inspired the youth to strive for the independence of the nation. His aim behind establishing the Banaras Hindu University was to educate the youth and prepare them for service of the nation. He made important contribution to the national freedom struggle through his sacrifices and penance, said Rawat. The Mahamana Malaviya Mission, Dehradun head Srikant Chandola and others were also present on the occasion.
