The officers of Cooperative Society have been directed to make villagers self-reliant through Government-sponsored welfare schemes, said Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya on Monday after he met some officers of Cooperative Society in Dehradun. He said the officers must reach out to the common people to make them aware of the government- sponsored schemes. Their focus must be on those living in the far- flung area of the State, he said, adding that the schemes must be implemented effectively to ensure that the outcome is discernible on the ground.
The Minister Arya presided over a meeting with State Co-operative Society Council members and reviewed the works being undertaken by units of Cooperative Society units in the state. The main objective of the cooperative societies should be reaching out to the poor and persons belonging to weaker section of the society, living in remotest areas of the state and they must be awared about government- sponsored schemes launched for their welfare. Villagers should be made economically empowered which would help in making them self- reliant.
The minister sought suggestions from the society members to speed up the cooperative movement so that people are informed about the government’s welfare schemes and benefits are reaching at their door steps. The cooperative officers were directed to develop broad work- plan for enhancing units of societies and up-gradation of its members. This would help in ensuring members are effectively working at village level and maximum persons are benefited from the government sponsored schemes.
Arya directed the cooperative officers to organise a meeting and problems faced by the members of the societies are redressed. He has directed the officers to take step for building cool house at various places in the state for the conservation of farmer’s fruits.
Small ponds should be developed for encouraging the farmers for fishing. The district officers should also work in making ponds in their districts so that villagers could be made self reliant. The officers should work for strengthening milk production. At village, more societies should be formed. Villagers should be encouraged sell their milk through societies.
In the past few years, there has shortage of fodders in plains and mountainous parts which is necessary for enhancing milk production. Society members should sell fodders in rural and mountainous parts so that milk production could be increased. On the occasion the Cooperative director Vijay Kumar Dhaudiyal informed the minister about schemes launched by the department and assured him that direction given in the meeting will be effectively implemented. Others present on the occasion were Mahendra Singh lumthi, Rakesh Kumar, Dua, Rajendra Sharma, SK Sharma, Ramindri Mandrawal, NPS Daka, Rakesh Chauhan and others.
