Major inferno averted as bike catches fire in petrol pump

Published on:

A major fire accident was narrowly averted at a petrol pump, located at Bypass, Nehru Colony area when a fire engulfed a bike (UK 06-8066) while its fuel tank was being filled on Wednesday. The fire was put out before it could spread to the petrol reservoir.  Though the actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained it seems that the bike might have caught fire with its engine being hot, said Dehradun fire station officer Shiv Prasad Mamgai.

He said that a student Naveen, resident of Tehri, had gone to the petrol pump to refill his two-wheeler’s tank with petrol. “When petrol was

being filled suddenly it caught fire,” he said, adding that the flame was put out in about 10 minutes.

Mamgai said that the fire service had been informed of the blaze at noon. Four fire tenders were sent.

However, before they arrived the fire was put out by the pump employees, he said. No complaint has been received in the Nehru Colony Police Station on the matter

so far.
