Sri Ganga Uddhar Seva Samiti president Mahant Hemraj Maharaj alleged on Monday through a press release that neither the Dehradun district administration nor the state administration are doing anything to stop the local land mafias from illegally selling lands located in Gautam Kund, part of the Chandrabani Temple Campus, at Mohabbewala in Dehradun. He said that the administration had been sitting on the matter despite his having written to the DM and other senior administrative officials repeatedly. Besides, he had written to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on the matter on September 12, praying to him to save the temple from the clutches of the land mafias, he said.
The Mahant further said that the illegal sale of lands owned by the temple committee had been continuing for the past ten years.
The cremation ground attached to the temple was not being spared either, he said, adding that the mafias unless reined in promptly would grab around 90 bigha of lands owned by Gautam Kund committee.
He further said that the committee members had been registering complaints at various levels of the administration over the past 10 years, but to no avail.
Dwelling on the importance of the place, the Mahant said that Aasan river originates from there. “Besides, it is believed that Mother Ganga appeared at this place following arduous tapasya undertaken by Rishi Gautam,” he said.
