Magnetic assembly of MRI machine finally arrives

Published on:

After a long wait of more than one and half months, the magnet assembly of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine finally arrived in the associated hospital of Doon Medical College on Wednesday.

Though the magnet which would be replaced has arrived, the patients would have to wait for some more days to get the machine functional. The problem, however, is that the width of the magnet is more than the door of the MRI chamber due to which the hospital authorities have decided to dismantle one of a wall to make way for the machine.

In fact the wall around the door of the corridor which connects the MRI wing to the hospital too would be broken for the magnet assembly. The magnet assembly is seven feet wide and 6 feet long and weighs about 4 tonnes.

The hospitals authorities have decided to start the activities like dismantling of walls after the MCI visit. The Phillips India limited the company which installed the machine and is responsible for its maintenance has imported the magnet from Netherlands.

The in charge of the MRI machine, Mahendra Bhandari said that the magnet assembly would be soon installed and the machine would become operational. He said that the machine which was regularly breaking down in past would get corrected with change of magnet.

The machine has been non-functional since March 9 this year, causing problems to large number of patients who are forced to take the services of private hospitals in absence of this important facility in a Government hospital.
