Young volunteers of Making A Difference-By Being the Difference (MAD) group have prepared 5,000 food packets and sent 3,500 of these to the disaster-affected areas.

The group has now established seven collection points in the city for those willing to donate important items like utensils, toiletries, basic medicines and clothes till July 10, said the group founder Abhijay Negi.

He said that the group had written a letter to the Uttarakhand Chief Justice expressing concern at the long term rehabilitation plan for the disaster affected persons.

The recurrence of disasters in Uttarakhand, the issue of opposition to creation of eco-sensitive zones and the alternative and accessible routes for the Char Dham Yatra were also raised in the letter.

Negi said that group members, MP Tarun Vijay and NGO Dhaad helped in transporting 3,500 food packets to the affected areas.

The group members plan to collect useful items like utensils, toiletries, basic medicines and clothes till July 10 for the disaster affected people. The group has set up seven collection points in the city so that people do not have to travel long distances in order to donate what they can.
