Gandhi Park is now seeing a host of youths from lucknow who are cleaning people's ears to earn living. They come every year in the city in search of work.
Suresh ,Jagga, Govind, Bandiya and many more are amongst the self-proclaimed ear cleaners claiming generational expertise in the domain. Some of them manage to earn Rs 250 a day and others much more.
Jagga said: 'I was taught by my father, who in turn learnt it from his grandfather. Our family has been cleaning ears since the Mughal times.
"The steady flow of customers is a pointer that our trade has not ceased to have use," said a beaming Govind who has earned Rs 1,600 for the day.
They have been trained by their teacher Sundar lal who lives in lucknow, they say. Around 10 t0 12 boys come to the city for this cleaning work, they added.
However, many think it is very unhygienic and dangerous. They clean it with metal sticks made of Brass which is inserted into the ears, something that can make them deaf for life, runs the refrain.
