lS polls: BJP struggles to announce candidates

Published on:

Even after deferring announcement of its candidates’ names twice after the implementation of model code of conduct, the State BJP leaders are busy finalising the names of the candidates who will contest in the upcoming general elections.

Sources revealed that only those candidates who will emerge victorious would be fielded by the party in all five parliamentary constituencies. Party insider claimed that the voters were in the mood to exercise their franchise in the favour of NDA as the UPA-I and UPA-II regime at the centre was completely flopped. The ruling Congress and BJP have not disclosed the name of the contesting candidates despite the fact that more than 10-day has passed since the implementation of the model code of conduct across the State.

Political sources revealed that Haridwar and Almora seats have become the hot seats as the scores of veteran leaders in the fray to get tickets for the upcoming general elections. Additionally, the names of the candidates for Tehri, Garhwal and Nainital seats have almost finalised by the central parliamentary board.

It is noteworthy that highly infuriated over his name not figuring in the list of probable candidates for Nainital lok Sabha seat, senior BJP leader and former Union minister Bachi Singh Rawat had resigned from all party posts. Although veterans opined that Rawat was one of the pillars whose contribution to the party cannot be forgotten but not interested to comment on this issue.

A senior party leader revealed that the party’s parliamentary board had earlier not disclosed the names of candidates on March, 8 and 13 and gave fair idea that board was having tough time finalising the names of the candidates. The central parliamentary board members have to be little more conscious while finalising the names of candidates, especially on Haridwar and Almora parliamentary constituencies.

In an exclusive interaction with The Pioneer, BJP State chief Tirath Singh Rawat said that the party would finalise the name of candidates very soon and further said that only winning candidates will be fielded by the party. After assuring that party’s candidates will comfortably win all five parliamentary seats in the state as the residents are now fully aware of the anti-people policies which were implemented by the Congress-led state government.

Rawat said that the series of meetings of central parliamentary board has taken place in order to finalize the names of winning candidates for the upcoming general elections. According to him, every party activist has right to ask for the ticket before the party high command and the ticket would be given to only those candidates, who can make difference in upcoming general elections. Rawat said that the board had been judiciously securitising the name of the candidates and claimed that all candidates will win the seats.
