low CDR: CM asks banks to pitch in

Published on:

District wise Credit Deposit Ratio (CDR) is disappointing with CDR in many district falling short of the expected figures, said the Chief Minister Harish Rawat while addressing the 52nd meeting of the State level Bankers’ Committee at the CM residence in Cantt Road on Friday. There is enough scope for cottage industries and farming in Champawat district, but the CDR is just 29 per cent. The CDR in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar is 97 and 47 percent respectively. The situation in Dehradun district is disappointing too.

The entire State’s CDR is mere 43 per cent. The banks will have to devise an effective mechanism to resolve this. The banks must work as the State’s partner for Uttarakhand’s development. Priority must be given to approve loans for farming, small & medium scale industries, the Chief Minister said, adding that the State is not getting expected support from the banks.

leading banks concerned must fulfill their responsibility. SBI, PNB and BOB bank’s performance are relatively better. Now these banks should increase their targets. CM asked Secretary Finance and DMs to make an intensive plan to increase the CDR. Agricultural sector is not getting the required importance. Although the State Government is promoting production- based and cluster- based farming the statistics show that the banks have not worked enough for improving things in this direction.

Mentioning the PM’s Jan Dhan scheme, CM said that the work of creating accounts has begun through Self- Reliant Scheme. Around 40 per cent accounts have been opened under this. CM expressed discontentment over his not having received details of the Jan Dhan scheme. He asked Secretary Finance to prepare a report of how to encourage the people to open their accounts who are not yet included in Jan Dhan scheme. The CM added that the performance of the banks in green areas is no better than banks located in grey areas.

The banks must support livelihood schemes. The Government has introduced a scheme to help women start their own business. The banks can contribute in this by providing loans. Present in the meeting were Secretary Finance MC Joshi, CGM SBI Delhi Region Pallav Mahapatra, Director RBI Rl Sharma, CGM NABARD CP Mohan and representatives from other banks.
