locals disappointed over delay in opening of Gola motor bridge

Published on:

local people have expressed their disappointment over delay in opening of the Gola motor bridge on the local Gola river in Haldwani despite the  assurances of the officials concerned to open the said bridge for light mode vehicle from August 10.

It is to note that the Gola bridge which was collapsed due to flood in 2008, finally opened for the pedestrians here from July 30, 2013. Then, as the officials concerned said, the said bridge was expected to be opened for the light mode vehicles from August 10 and for heavy mode vehicles from August 20.

However, locals from both Haldwani, Golapar and adjacent areas have now expressed disappointment over delay in opening of the said motor bridge for motorists despite assurances. It is quite disappointing to know that first a date is given for opening of the Gola motor bridge for motorists. But later a new deadline is given for opening of the same bridge. It is quite misleading, alleged Suresh Khanwal, a resident of Golapur.

The said bridge which can help the people living in Golapar and Chorgaliya areas travel about 10 km less to reach main Haldwani market, was collapsed in 2008 due to flood in the Gola river. Even after five years the said bridge has not yet  been made functional, he regretted.

Now the officials concerned have given assurances to make this bridge functional from August 15. It is to be seen whether the officials concerned now stick to their new deadline or not, Khanwal further said.
